“Reports that Monday’s terrorist attack in Basilan that killed 10 people (not 11 as the military clarified) was an ISIS-inspired operation should be condemned by all peace-loving nations.
“Today’s Reuters report said the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing attack in Southern Philippines and called it a “martyrdom operation.” The Islamic State statement was carried by Amaq news agency, a news outlet linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
“President Rodrigo Duterte, in his recent State-of-the-Nation Address (SONA), has pledged that “ISIS terrorists or groups or its allies will never gain a foothold in our country.”
“The President needs all the support of the people in keeping this promise and keeping our families safe from local and international terrorists. Let us all be vigilant in reporting to authorities any suspicious activities that may lead to terror groups.
“This supposed ISIS-inspired scare tactic should remind the military and other law enforcement agencies not to let their guard down.”
